PROFESSIONAL NURSE- GENERAL (GRADE1)

Job Overview

Port Shepstone Regional Hospital in KwaZulu-Natal is seeking three Professional Nurse - General (Grade 1) candidates. Requirements & Qualifications

• Grade 12 / Matric or Equivalent
• Diploma / Degree in General Nursing Science
• Diploma / Degree in Midwifery Nursing Science
• Current registration with SANC as General Nurse and Midwife / Accoucher
• Current SANC receipt for 2026
• No experience required for Grade 1
• Understanding of nursing legislation and related legal and ethical nursing practices
• Ability to perform clinical nursing practice in accordance with scope of practice and nursing standards
• Effective communication skills with patients, supervisors, and other clinicians including report writing
• Ability to work effectively, co-operatively and amicably with diverse persons
• Ability to plan and organize own work and that of support personnel
• Display a concern for patients promoting and advocating proper treatment and care

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Execute duties and functions with proficiency within prescripts of applicable legislation
• Provision of quality patient care in a cost-effective and efficient manner
• Implementation of policies and procedures, clinical guidelines, protocols, and legislative requirements
• Participate in implementation of Quality Improvement Programmes, Infection Prevention and Control, and occupational health and safety
• Uphold Batho Pele Principles and Patients’ Rights Charter
• Provide a safe, therapeutic environment as laid down by the Nursing Act
• Maintain accurate and complete patient records according to legal requirements
• Exercise control over discipline, grievance, and labour relation issues
• Manage and supervise effective utilization of all resources including human, financial, and material
• Assist in orientation, induction, and mentoring of all nursing staff
• Assist with relief duties of the supervisor and act as a shift leader on day and night shifts when necessary
