OPERATIONAL MANAGER NURSING GRADE 1 (SPECIALTY: ICU)

Job Overview

Groote Schuur Hospital, Observatory, is hiring an Operational Manager Nursing Grade 1 (Specialty: ICU) with a salary of R720,819 per annum. Candidates must be registered with SANC as a Professional Nurse, hold a post-basic qualification or post-graduate diploma in Critical Care Nursing (Adult), and have at least 9 years of appropriate nursing experience, including 5 years post-specialization. Responsibilities include providing clinical leadership, coordinating quality nursing care, managing human and financial resources, and staff development.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Basic R425 qualification (diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent (R683) allowing registration with SANC as Professional Nurse.
• A post-basic nursing qualification (at least 1 year) accredited with SANC in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Critical Care Nursing (Adult) OR a 4-year Bachelor Degree in Nursing (R174) or equivalent plus post graduate diploma (R635) in Critical Care Nursing (Adult).
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
• A minimum of 9 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing.
• At least 5 years of the experience period must be after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification or post-graduate diploma in the relevant specialty.
• Ability to perform after-hour, weekend and public holiday duties.
• Demonstrated competencies in management principles: supervisory, leadership, problem solving, conflict resolution, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Good organisational skills and ability to function under pressure and independently as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Knowledge of Nursing legislation, legal and ethical nursing practices, Human Resources, Labour relations, Financial Management, and Public sector legislation.
• Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide innovative leadership in the allocated area to realise the strategic goals and objectives of the Nursing Division.
• Responsible for the co-ordination and delivery of quality nursing care within the relevant department.
• Participation and implementation of audits and planned improvement initiatives.
• Participate in formulation, monitoring and implementation of policies, guidelines, standards, quality improvement initiatives, procedures and regulations pertaining to nursing care.
• Provide effective support and management of human, material and financial resources, as well as Functional Business FBU management principles.
• Manage staff performance, training and personal development of self and subordinates including management of underperformance and grievances.
• Collect, provide and use relevant information for the enhancement of service delivery, including participation in and encouragement of nursing research.
• Maintain ethical standards and promote professional development.
• Perform night duty allocation as required by the department.
• Deputise for the Assistant Manager: Nursing.
