Job Overview

Tygerberg Hospital is hiring an Occupational Therapist (Grade 1 to 3, 6/8th post) in the Western Cape. Candidates require an appropriate qualification allowing HPCSA registration and varying years of experience depending on the grade. Responsibilities include physical rehabilitation in amputations, orthopedics, trauma, and internal medicine, wheelchair assessments, splinting, assistive technology prescription, case management, and student training. Requirements & Qualifications

• Appropriate qualification allowing registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as Occupational Therapist.
• Registration with the HPCSA as Occupational Therapist.
• Grade 1 Experience: None after registration for RSA qualified employees; 1 year relevant experience for foreign qualified employees not required to perform Community Service.
• Grade 2 Experience: Minimum 10 years relevant experience for RSA qualified employees; minimum 11 years for foreign qualified employees not required to perform Community Service.
• Grade 3 Experience: Minimum 20 years relevant experience for RSA qualified employees; minimum 21 years for foreign qualified employees not required to perform Community Service.
• Excellent clinical skills in physical rehabilitation including Amputations, Orthopedics, Trauma, and Internal Medicine.
• Computer literacy.
• Wheelchair assessment, prescription, and provision capabilities.
• Splinting skills.
• Sound knowledge of relevant provincial and national legislation.
• Good interpersonal, organizational, and planning abilities.
• Ability to work in a team and cope with high-pressure, fast-paced environments.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Deliver an effective and efficient occupational therapy service in clinical areas including Amputations, Orthopedics, Trauma, and Internal Medicine.
• Conduct comprehensive assessments and occupation-based treatments.
• Perform basic to intermediate level wheelchair assessments and seating for wheelchair users.
• Fabricate and prescribe various upper and lower limb splints.
• Prescribe assistive technology for relevant medical conditions.
• Execute appropriate discharge plans in accordance with departmental procedures.
• Conduct independent case management through attendance of ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings.
• Contribute to the progress and development of the clinical area.
• Contribute to the management of physical resources in the Occupational Therapy Department.
• Provide OT student training.
