MEDICAL SPECIALIST GRADE 1: PAEDIATRIC

Job Overview

A Medical Specialist Grade 1 in Paediatric position is available at Rob Ferreira Hospital in the Ehlanzeni District under the Mpumalanga Department of Health. The role involves supervising paediatric services, managing patients in level 2/3 facilities, developing clinical guidelines, participating in academic programs, and guiding junior staff. Applicants must be registered with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Paediatrics. The salary ranges from R1 395 528 to R1 479 723 per annum.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Appropriate qualifications that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Paediatric
• A valid work permit will be required from non-South Africans
• Sound knowledge of medical ethics
• Multidisciplinary management and teamwork and experience in the respective medical discipline
• Knowledge of current Health and Public Service regulations and policies
• Skills in terms of consultations, history taking, examination, clinical assessment and clinical management
• Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist (Independent Practice) or minimum of 1-year relevant experience after registration with a recognized Foreign Professions and / or the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist (Paediatric) for foreign qualified employees
• Sound clinical knowledge and competency in general clinical domains
• Ability to work independently, under pressure, beyond normal working hours and with a diverse team
• Good communication, leadership, interpersonal skills
• Ability to teach and guide junior staff within the department

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Supervising the management of and managing Paediatric and coordinate services
• Execute duties and functions with proficiency to support the aims and objectives of the institution consistent with standards of patient care
• Accept responsibility for the management of patients admitted in a level 2/3 package of service facility
• Assist in the preparation and implementation of guidelines and protocols
• Participate in academic and training programs
• Assist with clinical audits and actively participate in continuous professional development
• Provide support to hospital management towards an efficient standard of patient care and services maintained
• Comply with the performance Management and Development System including conducting quarterly reviews and final assessment
