MEDICAL OFFICER: (GRADE 1,2,3)

Job Overview

Grey’s Hospital in the Pietermaritzburg Metropolitan Complex is hiring Medical Officers (Grade 1, 2, or 3) specializing in Internal Medicine. Candidates must hold an MBCHB degree and current independent practice registration with the HPCSA. Responsibilities include delivering 24-hour clinical services, performing mandatory commuted overtime, participating in academic and quality improvement programs, and clinical rotations. Requirements & Qualifications

• Grade 1: Experience Not Applicable for SA graduates. Foreign qualified candidates require 1 year relevant experience after registration as a Medical Practitioner with a recognized Foreign Health Professional Council without community service requirement.
• Grade 2: 5 years appropriate experience as a Medical Officer after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner. Foreign candidates require 6 years relevant experience.
• Grade 3: 10 years experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner. Foreign qualified candidates require 11 years relevant experience.
• Senior Certificate Grade 12 or equivalent
• MBCHB Degree or Equivalent qualification
• Current Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner in independent practice
• Prior clinical care experience in Internal Medicine is an advantage
• Internal Medicine specific certification through CMSA including Diploma in Internal Medicine and FCP Part 1 is an added advantage
• Sound clinical and patient management skills
• Knowledge of human resource management, information management, quality assurance programs, and medical ethics

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Deliver Internal Medicine services in the context of Grey’s Hospital as a tertiary health care facility and referral centre
• Perform duties as part of an extended health care team providing 24-hour per day health care services
• Perform mandatory Group 3 Overtime (13 to 20 hours per week)
• Perform duties in Area 2, including rotations between hospitals in the Pietermaritzburg metropole and outreach services
• Perform tasks supporting clinical care as allocated by the management team
• Participate in quality improvement programmes, quality assessment initiatives, and audits
• Contribute to service development by learning, teaching undergraduate and interns, and participating in academic and research activities
• Provide supervision and support to staff involved in health care services and facilitate health service provision
