LIBRARY ASSISTANT (X9 POSTS)

Job Overview

The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC) is offering nine Library Assistant positions across multiple districts in the Eastern Cape, including Amathole, OR Tambo, Alfred Nzo, Chris Hani, Sarah Baartman, and Joe Gqabi. Candidates require a National Senior Certificate, with diplomas or degrees in Library and Information Science serving as an added advantage. Duties include circulation management, shelving, user assistance, and community outreach programmes. These positions are specifically earmarked for persons with disabilities.

Requirements & Qualifications

• National Senior Certificate.
• National Senior Certificate with relevant experience or Diploma/B. Degree (NQF level 6/7) as recognized by SAQA in Library & Information Science will be an added advantage.
• Good command of at least two (2) official languages will be an added advantage.
• Knowledge of library systems and relevant government prescripts.
• Exposure in the field will be an added advantage.
• Computer literacy.
• Good verbal and written skills.
• A valid (Code 8) driving licence will be an added advantage.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform all circulations duties in the library.
• Join and assist in renewal library membership.
• Shelving of all library reading material.
• Attend to reference queries brought by users.
• Maintain good public relations with stakeholders.
• Accompany librarian in attending meetings when necessarily.
• Compile statistics of the library.
• Assist in organising and/ or be involved in awareness programmes (Advocacy and Marketing).
• Assist in the formation/establishment of a library structure & book clubs.
• Responsible for orientation and children’s programmes.
• Assist in the management of library donations, and other programmes in the library including ICT and mini-lib services.
