INDUSTRIAL TECHNICIAN PRODUCTION: BUILDING

Job Overview

An Industrial Technician Production (Building) position is available at Head Office, Cape Town (Karl Bremer Hospital grounds) within the Western Cape government. The role requires a B-Tech, National Diploma, or equivalent in the Built Environment (Building), along with experience in health infrastructure design, specification, and maintenance. Key duties involve compiling specifications, drawings, and tender documentation, ensuring Occupational Health and Safety compliance, and managing contracts and projects. Candidates must be computer literate in AutoCAD, MS Word, and Excel, and hold a valid driver's licence.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum educational qualification: B-Tech or National Diploma or equivalent (T- or N- or S- Stream) in the Built Environment (Building, not electrical or mechanical) or an equivalent relevant qualification.
• Appropriate experience in design, specification and maintenance of health infrastructure with a strong emphasis on maintenance, compliance and minor works.
• Willing to work overtime, stay away and travel throughout the Western Cape Province, often at short notice.
• Willing to assist in other institutions and directorates.
• Willingness to travel within the boarders of the Western Cape.
• Valid (Code B/EB) driver’s licence.
• Knowledge in the compilation of specifications and tender documentation.
• Compilation of Drawings for Tender, Construction purposes as well as submission to Council.
• Contracts and quality management skills.
• Competent with hands-on practical work, finding practical solutions.
• Computer literate (Auto CAD, MS Word and Excel).
• Knowledge and experience in IT, design of Built infrastructure in the health care environment.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Compile specifications, drawings and tender documentation within time limits.
• Liaise with clients with regard to information and work progress.
• Ensure continuity of service schedules, prioritizing work, and consideration of operational requirements.
• Ensure equipment and working areas are compliant with Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Sound Contract and project management.
