ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH PRACTITIONER GRADE 1

Job Overview

An Environmental Health Practitioner Grade 1 position is available at Embalenhle CHC within the Gert Sibande District. The role requires a Grade 12 certificate, an appropriate qualification allowing HPCSA registration, and a valid driver's licence. Key responsibilities include waste management, SHERQ compliance, water and food sample collection, vector control, disease surveillance, and occupational hygiene surveillance. Experience in hospital settings and occupational health and safety serves as an advantage.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Senior Certificate / Grade 12 or equivalent qualification
• Appropriate qualification that allows for the required registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) in the relevant profession
• For SA Qualified employees: None after registration with the HPCSA in respect of employees who performed Community Service
• For Foreign Qualified employees: One (1) year relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA in respect of employees of whom it is not required to perform Community Service
• Hospital experience and extensive knowledge in Occupational Health and Safety will be an added advantage
• Good interpersonal skills, written, verbal and presentation skills
• Accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to work under pressure
• Ability and willingness to travel
• Leadership skills
• Valid driver's licence

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Ensure proper handling and monitoring of general waste and health care risk waste
• Manage Safety Health Environment Risk and Quality (SHERQ)
• Conduct waste quality monitoring including collection of water samples and analyzing results
• Perform food control through collection of food samples, inspection of food premises, and training of staff
• Execute vector control within the facility by organizing pest control programmes
• Conduct disease surveillance, form part of the outbreak response team, investigate outbreaks, and liaise with relevant stakeholders
• Monitor environmental health indicators and provide reports to management
• Manage pollution control and environmental health hygiene
• Conduct occupational hygiene surveillance
