CLINICAL TECHNOLOGIST GRADE 1 TO 3 (CRITICAL CARE)

Job Overview

Tygerberg Hospital in Parow Valley is hiring a Clinical Technologist (Critical Care) across Grades 1 to 3. Responsibilities include providing clinical technology critical care services, working in clinical and training units, performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, maintaining life support equipment, and assisting with intubations and resuscitations. Candidates must possess an appropriate qualification allowing HPCSA registration as a Clinical Technologist in Critical Care, a valid driver's license, and willingness to work standby and after-hours.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Appropriate qualification that allows for registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Clinical Technologist in Critical Care.
• Registration with the HPCSA as Clinical Technologist in Critical Care.
• Grade 1: None after registration for RSA qualified employees; 1-year relevant experience for foreign qualified employees.
• Grade 2: Minimum of 10 years relevant experience after registration for SA qualified employees; 11 years for foreign qualified employees.
• Grade 3: Minimum of 20 years relevant experience after registration for SA qualified employees; 21 years for foreign qualified employees.
• Valid driver's license.
• Required to work standby, after-hours, weekends and public holidays.
• Thorough knowledge and experience in critical care environments.
• Above average technical skills and ability to solve problems under pressure.
• Ability to work independently and in a team context.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Effective provision of Clinical Technology Critical Care services in clinical areas.
• Work in active clinical and training Critical Care and Anaesthetic units.
• Performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and tests.
• Setting up, performing calibration, and ensuring all life support equipment is readily available for use.
• Assist with difficult intubations, bronchoscopy, resuscitations, cardiac output monitoring, and IAP measurement.
• Actively participate in teaching and training of students and other healthcare workers.
• Promote Batho Pele principles to promote effective service delivery.
• Maintain and check equipment regularly to comply with safety requirements.
• Trouble-shoot according to scope of practice.
• Exercise patient care and expertise when performing procedures.
