Job Overview

A Biodiversity Officer Production Grade A position is available in Cape Town with a salary of R357 597 per annum. The role requires a National Diploma in Natural or Environmental Science alongside one year of relevant experience. Key responsibilities include administering alien and invasive species authorisations, processing permit applications, conducting risk assessments, stakeholder liaison, maintaining permit databases, and providing species verification under the Alien and Invasive Species Regulations.

Requirements & Qualifications

• National Diploma (NQF6) in Natural/Environmental Science or relevant qualification within the related field.
• A minimum of one (1) year experience required in a relevant field.
• Knowledge of the application of the relevant national and international prescripts relating to the management of invasive alien species.
• Knowledge on Natural Resources Management policies and procedure.
• Knowledge of Project management, Financial and Procurement procedures.
• Research skills.
• Planning and organising skills.
• Written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be innovative and proactive.
• Ability to work long hours voluntarily.
• Ability to gather and analyse information.
• Good interpersonal relations skills.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Administer the process of issuing authorisation of alien and invasive species.
• Process permit applications.
• Conduct risk assessments for listed invasive species and alien species with invasive potential.
• Liaise and advise stakeholders on the permitting of alien and invasive species.
• Co-ordinate and participate in multi-lateral interactions to facilitate the implementation of the Alien and Invasive Species Regulations and associated norms and standards.
• Establish and maintain a register of all permits.
• Provide a bi-annual report supported by the permit database.
• Update and maintain permit database.
• Conduct desktop research to ensure correct scientific names are allocated for permit applications.
• Provide species verification on the Alien and Invasive Species Regulations.
