Job Overview

Helderberg Hospital is hiring an Assistant Manager Nursing: General (Night Duty) within Metro Health Services. The role requires an SANC-registered Professional Nurse with a basic nursing diploma/degree or 4-year bachelor's degree, at least 8 years of nursing experience, and 3 years at a management level. Responsibilities include coordinating night shift nursing objectives, managing quality care, human resources, finances, and nursing policies. Candidates must possess a valid driver's licence, computer literacy, and strong leadership, financial, and labor relations knowledge.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
• A 4 year Bachelor Degree in Nursing (R174) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
• Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
• Minimum of 8 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse in General Nursing.
• At least 3 years of the experience must be at management level.
• Valid (Code B/EB) drivers licence.
• Willingness to work shifts, public holidays, after-hours, standby and weekend cover for nursing and travel to attend official meetings and/or trainings.
• Willingness to deputise for the Deputy Manager Nursing and act for another member of the Nurse Management team.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation pertaining to labour relations, nursing legislation, legal and ethical nursing practices, and public sector policies.
• Understanding of Infection Prevention Control, Occupational Health and Safety, Risk Management, Ideal Hospital Framework, and Office of Health Standard Compliance.
• Managerial and leadership skills including integrity, delegation, accountability, problem solving, decision making, conflict resolution, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Understanding of People Management (Human Resource Management) and financial policies and practices.
• Computer Literacy in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Overall coordination, implementation and monitoring of the strategic nursing practice objectives on night in the hospital.
• Effective management and coordination of quality nursing care within set standards within legal and professional frameworks.
• Manage and facilitate both human resources and financial aspects related to the hospital.
• Management of information through the collection and analysis of data, report writing and development and implementation of relevant interventions.
• Policy development and implementation.
• Ensure that clinical nursing practice are rendered by the nursing team and promote quality of nursing care as directed by scope of practice and standards.
