ASSISTANT DIRECTOR: RESEARCH AND EVALUATION

Job Overview

The North West Provincial Government seeks an Assistant Director: Research and Evaluation based in Mahikeng. Responsibilities include facilitating the Provincial Research and Evaluation Agenda, coordinating capacity building, managing data warehouses, and building stakeholder partnerships. Candidates must possess an NQF level 7 qualification in Economics, Statistics, Social Sciences, or related fields, alongside 3 to 5 years of relevant experience, including 2 years at a supervisory level.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Three-year appropriate tertiary qualification in Economics, Social Sciences, Population, Monitoring & Evaluation, Development Studies, Statistics, Innovation or related field at NQF level 7
• 3 to 5 years of experience applicable to the relevant discipline
• 2 years of experience at Supervisory level
• Knowledge of Research and Evaluation design techniques and methods, both qualitative and quantitative
• Design thinking, data collection and data encoding skills
• Questionnaire design and administration
• Understanding of national, provincial and local government structures and relationships
• Policy analysis and monitoring and evaluation knowledge
• Computer literacy in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Critical thinking, analytical skills, and data analysis using statistical packages for Economic and Social Sciences
• Knowledge of Geographical Information systems
• Effective communication, writing, negotiation, facilitation, presentation, and conflict management skills

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Facilitate the development and implementation of the Provincial Research and Evaluation Agenda
• Facilitate and coordinate capacity building programmes for research and evaluation at Provincial and local spheres
• Facilitate research and evaluation projects in support of the Provincial Priorities
• Facilitate the establishment of the Provincial Research and Evaluation Technical Working Group
• Administer the Research and Evaluation Data Warehouse
• Foster and sustain partnerships with knowledge institutions
• Assist in handling research contracts, MOU, and MOA processes
• Network and build relationships with internal and external research stakeholders
• Assist in the coordination of innovation in the province
