ASSISTANT DIRECTOR: RESEARCH

Job Overview

The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) is seeking an Assistant Director: Research based in Pretoria. The role involves managing, planning, and applying research to enhance government communication effectiveness. Requirements include an NQF 6 National Diploma in Communication, Social, or Political Sciences, or Statistics, along with 3 years of relevant experience including 1 year at a supervisory level. Requirements & Qualifications

• Appropriate National Diploma (NQF 6) in Communication Sciences, Social Sciences, Political Sciences, or Statistics.
• A relevant post-graduate qualification with a research component will be an added advantage.
• At least three (3) years’ relevant experience, of which one (1) year should be on salary level 7, 8, or equivalent supervisory level in research or communication research.
• General managerial, project management, and administration experience.
• Good general knowledge and interest in current and government affairs.
• Competence in research design and analytical skills with proven experience in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
• Proficiency in MS programmes and data analysis packages (i.e. SPSS).
• Proficiency in both presentation and report writing.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist with the management, planning, and application of research to enhance the effectiveness of government communication.
• Assist in providing research advice and a support service to GCIS and clients in terms of communication research.
• Professionally liaise with service providers and clients.
• Design qualitative and quantitative data collection instruments, including administration of appropriate research instruments.
• Conduct quantitative data analysis using software such as SPSS and MS Excel.
• Analyse qualitative data and interpret research results.
• Prepare and present research reports and findings at various internal and external stakeholder meetings.
• Aid in general managerial tasks, including financial management for optimal resource management in the Directorate: Research Services.
