ARTISAN ASSISTANT (TECHNICAL SERVICES) Cape Winelands Health District

Job Overview

The West Coast TB Centre, based at Sonstraal Hospital in Malmesbury within the Cape Winelands Health District, is seeking an Artisan Assistant for Technical Services at R201 093 per annum. Responsibilities include facility maintenance, equipment repairs, daily machinery checks, contractor oversight, and workshop administration. Candidates must have a Grade 10 or equivalent, relevant maintenance experience, a valid driver's license, physical fitness for height and confined space work, availability for standby/overtime, and knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum Educational qualification: Grade 10 (or equivalent).
• Appropriate experience in at least one of these fields: repairs and maintenance of hospital equipment, infrastructure, painting, air-conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, carpentry.
• Valid (Code B/EB/C) driver’s license.
• Physically fit to perform duties, work at heights and in confined spaces.
• Must be prepared to work overtime and perform standby duties after hours, including weekends and Public Holidays.
• Adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1993 and its relevant regulations.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Carry out ad-hoc maintenance and repair requests under supervision of the Artisan.
• Perform or arrange preventative maintenance on plant and equipment.
• Follow emergency maintenance protocols at the hospital and health facilities within the subdistrict.
• Carry out daily checks on generator, oxygen, and other machinery.
• Adhere to the maintenance schedule for all facilities and do regular facility inspections.
• Provide specifications under the supervision of the Artisan for service provider jobs.
• Attend site meetings and manage contractors.
• Ensure an organised neat workshop, efficient and effective management and control of stock, tools, equipment, and perform administrative duties.
• Ensure excellent record keeping.
• Assist with the management and supervision of the maintenance team reporting to the Artisan Assistant.
• Provide assistance and support to Artisan, managers, supervisor and colleagues.
